We’ll meet @ the second designated parking lot on Paint Mines Road. MAP
Directions to the Paint Mines Open Space:
Hwy 24 east from Colo Spgs to Calhan.
Turn south on Yoder Rd/Calhan Hwy.
Turn east on Paint Mines Rd.
Drive to 2nd designated parking area.
Dress for colder weather/layers; and appropriate footware for secure hiking.
From the second parking lot, we will take a spur trail down into the Paint Mines Open Space. Although a short trail, it’s a little bit of work. Those not conditioned for the hike, could stay up on top and photograph the night sky from there.
People will need the following:
Wide angle lens
Flashlight or headlamp
Snacks (trail mix)
A Great Attitude
If we get there around 5:00 pm, we will have the opportunity to photograph at sunset, twilight (blue hour), and the Photographers Ephemeris indicates a new moon, a good sky for the Milky Way. We can’t plan for a clear sky, but should be a great deal of fun regardless. Once it gets dark, it can be a little difficult to find your way out of there, so flashlights are a must.
